Conference
The Conference brings together experts from industry, government, defence, academia, research and end users to examine and discuss the issues related to sustainability and value addition in metallurgical and allied industries that would have maximum impact on end-user industry, such as, Aerospace, Automobile, Power sector, etc. In the present global economic scenario, advances
in science and technology are expected to contribute significantly to global economic revival and its sustainability. Keeping this in mind as well as the interest of researchers and the industry, the Bangalore and Vijayanagar Chapters of the Indian Institute of Metals (IIM) are organizing a two-day conference and one day Techmart session entitled “Metallurgical Industries – Sustainability and Value Addition”.

Objectives
• To provide a forum to facilitate interaction between the R & D experts and the captains of industry with the metallurgical equipment manufacturers.
• To disseminate current state of art practices and learn about the future trends in the industry which would make it sustainable in the future.

Topics
The conference theme would be in broad area of “Metallurgical Industries – Sustainability and Value Addition” which will encompass the sub-themes like

Organisers
The Indian Institute of Metals-Bangalore Chapter (IIM): The Indian Institute of Metals was conceived in 1945 and currently the membership exceeds ten thousand with fifty two chapters across the country. Most of the nation’s outstanding metallurgists and materials engineers have been  associated with IIM in various capacities. The Bangalore Chapter, located in the Indian Institute of
Science (IISc), is one of the leading Chapters of IIM, established in 1949.

The Department of Materials Engineering at IISc works in close association with the IIM Bangalore Chapter (IIM-BC) in all its technical activities supporting the metallurgists’ fraternity. The IIM-BC organizes many events like Workshops, Conferences including the prestigious Professor Brahm Prakash Memorial and Diamond Jubilee Lectures. It provides a platform for dissemination of knowledge and support to the industries. Further, it provides a bridge between the academia and industry. Complementing its efforts the Vijayanagar Chapter of the Indian Institute of Metals has joined hands with IIM-BC in this event.

The Indian Institute of Metals Vijayanagar Chapter: The Indian Institute of Metals Vijayanagar Chapter was started in the year 2000 with major support from JSW Steel Limited. The Chapter was formed with an objective of providing a platform for interaction of plant personnel with metallurgists from various institutions and vice versa. The Chapter organises lectures by eminent professionals from Industry, Academia and Research Institutes. The Chapter is also a centre for AMIIM examinations. The Chapter has more than 100 student members at any given time from the neighbouring areas.

Methodology
Workshop on World Class Manufacturing Practices will be highly interactive and requires active involvement from each participant. The methodology involves experiential learning wherein the participants are made to work in groups to identify problems and apply relevant tools for solving them. The workshop also aims at identifying problems and developing effective problem solving skills among the participants.

Profile of the Resource Person
Dr. Manjunath V. S, is a Mechanical Engineer and he hold three masters degrees. He holds M.Tech in Manufacturing Science and Engineering, Masters in International Business and Masters in Human Resource management. He has successfully completed PhD in the area of Human Resource Management from Bangalore University. He has 5 years of industry experience and 16 years of teaching experience. He is a certified Six Sigma Black Belt.
He was actively involved in curriculum development of VTU MBA course. He is an active trainer and has conducted over 100 training programs and  trained over 2000 executives from various organizations like Wipro, HMT, BEML, Fouress engineering, Ace designers, GE Triveni, Sutures India,  etc in the areas of TQM, Six Sigma, Personality Development, Supervisory Development, Kaizen etc. He conducts regular training programs for FKCCI (Federation of Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industries). He has also conducted several Faculty Development programs and trained more than 500 faculty members. He has also conducted in house training programs for the organizations Canara Hydraulics Limited, and Southern Electronics Limited.
He has authored/co-authored 8 text books which are published by Pearson Education and Excel Books. He has presented and published more than 30 research papers. He is a regular columnist for FKCCI journal “The Mysore Commerce”. He is life member of ISTE, Corporate member of NIPM, and Member-FKCCI
At present he is working as Director and Professor, at Nitte School of Management, Yelahanka which is a autonomous B School approved by AICTE and belongs to Nitte Education Trust, Mangalore.
